Astronomy associations
An astronomy association is a group of amateurs who get together to observe the sky and to talk about it. They are not companies: they are set up as non-profits and run on small membership fees and the voluntary work of their members. What they are after is outreach and enjoying astronomy in good company.
Gear and skies you would not have on your own
The society's telescopes, often an observatory of its own, and the dark observing spots its members have already scouted.
Someone to teach you
Beginner courses and experienced members beside you the first time you point a telescope. You learn far quicker with company.
Field trips, talks and outreach
Group observing sessions, eclipses and meteor showers, and activities open to anyone who fancies a look through the eyepiece.
